      Introducing the Aires Bib Short

      Introducing the Aires Bib Short

      Built for total riding comfort

Our new pro level bib short designed and developed for the elite cyclist who is seeking a competitive edge while training or racing in hot and humid weather conditions.  High compression, moisture wicking fabrics are paired with our ultra-high density chamois to provide comfort on the longest and most demanding days in the saddle.

      Hot Weather Performance

Premium high-gauge Italian fabric features Coldblack™, a cooling technology which reflects the sun’s rays reducing the build-up of heat.  This technology allows the body to focus its energy toward the strenuous activity of cycling rather than wasting it trying to cool itself - boosting performance and delaying the onset of fatigue.

      Ventilated Bib Upper

Upper section of bib features 1-piece seamless design for improved stretch and support with less pressure on shoulders.

      Long Distance Comfort

Our Forma Pro Anatomic Carbon chamois represents our dedication in addressing the biggest concern for cyclists - in saddle comfort.  Special ultra-high density inserts are combined with an anatomic shape to provide the needed stability, support and protection over long distances. Low Profile leg grippers

Italian leg gripper has low profile finish which provides support and stability without restriction while providing an aerodynamic advantage.

Women's Breakaway Collection: Taking it on the road

Women's Breakaway Collection: Taking it on the road

With all of the rare and much welcomed rain over the winter here in Southern California our friends from Ventura County urged us to put together a group ride and make the short trip north from Long Beach to do a bit of pedaling around one of their favorite local loops. With spring in full bloom they guaranteed that riding and the views would not disappoint.

        First thing first - Coffee

We met up at The Stonehaus which is a great cycling friendly cafe and coffee shop located just a few minutes from the epic roads we were about to pedal over.  So the crew grabbed some coffee to stoke the engines before setting off.

        Hidden Valley: California

Located near the northwestern border of Los Angeles county; Hidden Valley is a southern California cycling gem.

Just a few lights, a couple turns and less then 10 minutes into the ride you find yourself on smooth and twisty farm roads that feels more like the central coast then Los Angeles.

The twisty lakeside road quickly opens up to the "Hidden Valley" where picturesque equestrian farms are surrounded by rugged mountains including Sandstone Peak which is the highest point in the Santa Monica mountain range.

With cycling there is always a bit of work needed.  It can’t all just be pay-off. As we looped around and headed back across the valley the tailwind which gently pushed the group across the rolling terrain turned into a slight headwind.  It was time to get in-line, hunker down, and share in the work and make our way back home.

What to wear in spring riding conditions: A How To Guide.

What to wear in spring riding conditions: A How To Guide.

        GEAR UP FOR SPRING!

Spring is just around the corner and with this comes a change from cold, damp and dreary conditions to crisp early mornings and warmer days.  Ever improving weather and increased daylight hours means more time spent on our bikes and doing what we love.   These spring days often mean cold temperatures at start time but soon the mercury rises creating vast temperature differences over the course of a ride.

Pair your summer riding kit with layering essentials which can be peeled off as conditions fluctuate and vary to maintain optimal temperature regulation and comfort during this transitional season of change.

        Warmers

Not only can spring time weather be unpredictable but the temperature difference between the start of the ride and its conclusion might make it seem like you need 2 completely different wardrobes.  Warmers are a great choice for any cyclist because they are extremely effective against chill yet are compact and lightweight, making them easy to stow away and carry as temperatures rise.

        Base Layer

Base layers are one of the most over-looked yet most important pieces you can have in your wardrobe.  As a wicking layer its duty is simply pull moisture away from your skin.  In cold weather this wicking function keeps you dry thereby eliminating any wind chill caused by having damp fabric against your skin.  In warmer conditions that same wicking function provide evaporation cooling to help your body maintain optimal temperature regulation.

        Lightweight fleece gloves

Versatility is the ongoing theme as it relates to the best garment choices for spring riding.  Lightweight fleeced style gloves provide additional thermal properties in the cold, but unlike wind-stoppers as temperatures rise they allow for excellent breath-ability as well.  This combination provides comfort in a wide range of temperatures and can be easily stowed away if necessary.

        Lightweight Vest and Jacket

A proper vest or jacket will extend the comfortable temperature range of a given cycling kit by 10-25 degrees.  This protective layer is extremely effective against wind chill by protecting your core yet should be compact and lightweight enough to easily be stowed away as needed.  Fine tune your temperature range by adding or removing this protective outer layer as the mercury rises or falls throughout the course of your ride.

As the saying goes "there is no bad weather just inappropriate clothing"

The ups and downs of the California coast

The ups and downs of the California coast

Southern California is a living cliché. Often ridiculed as fake or pretentious but all you have to do is hop on your bike and start to ride up one of the many winding canyons in and around Malibu to see why so many flock here.

You start a ride meandering through ranches where horses frolic behind pristine white picket fences. Drop down a winding canyon to emerge on the coast highway, passing iconic landmarks used in almost every car commercial.

After another turn you are climbing up Deer Creek Road, one of the steepest grades in California. As your legs scream for mercy you look back at your group and squint hard against the sparking blue ocean silhouetting them.

As your lungs begin to collapse and your brain is screaming you can do no more, you crest the hill and enjoy a glorious decent through narrow roads surrounded by lush fields of green. As you pull in to one of many microbrewery’s for your just reward you smile to yourself and think “let the critics be damned… this is the best place on earth”.
